Send a document or picture with a question so the agent can use it in that conversation. A chat attachment does not automatically become reusable knowledge for everyone who uses the agent. The agent must allow file input. Questions about pictures also need an image-capable model. Have a supported file on your device and permission to share its contents.

Choose a suitable file

Supported documents include PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, plain text and Markdown. Common image types include GIF, JPEG/JPG, PNG and WebP. HTML and SVG are not accepted. For a first practice question, use a short, non-sensitive document containing facts you understand. For example, ask for a summary of that document.

Find the attachment action

Already in the intended agent’s chat or widget? Continue with Attach the file. To use the main app:
  1. Open Chat, or select Chat in the sidebar.
  2. Select the agent you want to ask.
  3. Continue with Attach the file.
The link opens the general Chat area. You choose your agent there. For a website widget, open the website where you use that agent, then continue below.

Attach the file

Beside the message box, the plus menu is labelled Add context or attachments. It offers Add files in the main chat and Add files or photos in the widget. Some layouts show Attach file directly.
  1. Open the plus menu, if your layout uses it.
  2. Select Add files, Add files or photos, or the direct Attach file action shown in your chat.
  3. Choose your file in the device’s file picker.
  4. Read the Privacy Notice if it appears.
The notice explains processing and whether a copy is shared with the creator. Choose Cancel to stop if you do not want to proceed under those terms. Otherwise, continue:
  1. Select Upload if the notice asks you to confirm.
  2. Wait for uploading and processing to finish.
  3. Check the attachment shown beside your message.
  4. Type a specific question about its content.
  5. Select the arrow button labelled Send message, or press Enter.
  6. Wait for the response.
The sent message should include the attachment. A file name alone does not mean processing has finished. Do not send while a file is pending or has failed.

Understand where the file goes

A chat attachment belongs to the conversation. Some agents also share a copy with their creator; the upload notice explains when this happens. Read it before uploading personal or confidential material. Removing an unsent attachment from the message is different from deleting a stored upload. In a widget, Account → Your uploaded files offers deletion where available. See Files visitors send you for that process. To give an agent reusable knowledge, follow Upload files to your agent.

If the file is not ready or the answer misses it

  • The upload failed: use the attachment’s offered retry action, or remove the unwanted attachment before sending.
  • The file was rejected: check its type, size and the displayed limit.
  • The conversation is at its stored limit: follow Start a new conversation at the stored limit for your main-app or widget chat.
  • The attachment action is absent: the agent may not allow uploads.
  • The answer ignores a completed upload: ask a direct question about the attached content.

Start a new conversation at the stored limit

Starting fresh is for a new task. It does not establish that earlier stored uploads were erased. Removing a draft attachment chip also does not confirm erasure of earlier stored files. In the main app: follow Start a fresh topic using the chat-navigation sidebar. Then return to Attach the file for your new question. In a website widget: use the menu beside its message box.
  1. Wait for any current reply to finish.
  2. Open the plus menu labelled Add context or attachments.
  3. Select New conversation when available.
  4. Check that the earlier conversation’s messages are no longer shown and the message box is empty.
  5. Return to Attach the file to add the file for your new question.
