Give your agent reference documents it can search when answering questions. Use these for a FAQ, product information, handbook or class notes. Instructions describe how the agent should behave; knowledge supplies the information it should use. Describing your business during agent creation does not upload its facts. Choose a document you are allowed to share with the intended audience. Use an agent you can edit. For practice, start with a small, clear source and keep private customer records and passwords out of it.

Choose a supported document

Stored knowledge accepts:
  • PDF
  • Word documents
  • Excel spreadsheets
  • CSV
  • Plain text
  • Markdown
It does not accept pictures, HTML files or PowerPoint presentations as stored knowledge documents. Each file can be up to 25 MiB, which the upload area may display as 25 MB. The space also needs enough available storage. File and storage limits lists the accepted extensions.

Make a practice file if you need one

You can use your own approved document or this fictional shop example.
  1. Open a plain-text editor on your device.
  2. Copy the four lines below into a new document.
  3. Use the editor’s save command.
  4. Save the file as Customer questions.txt somewhere you can find again.
Choose plain text if the editor asks for a format.
Shop name: Ridge and River Outdoor Shop. This shop is fictional. Returns: Customers should bring unused products and the purchase receipt to the shop. Staff review damaged items separately. Boot fitting: Try both boots with the socks you expect to hike in. Ask staff for help if the fit is uncertain. Delivery: This note does not state delivery times.
These are practice facts, not an Alysium policy or a real shop’s policy. Replace them with approved information before using the agent for a real business.

Find Upload Documents

  1. Open Home.
  2. Select the agent that should use the file.
  3. Open Build.
  4. Select Settings.
  5. Find Knowledge → Upload Documents.
Home opens your current space; choose the intended agent there. If the upload area is already open, continue with Select the file. Paste Text beside it is a separate way to add a passage.

Select the file

  1. Select Browse files.
  2. Select your document in the device’s file picker.
  3. Confirm the selection in that picker.
  4. Continue with Wait for Ready.
The selection starts uploading. There is no second Alysium Upload button. You can also drop the file onto Drop files here, then continue with Wait for Ready. Keep the page open while transfer and preparation finish.

Wait for Ready

Find the file in Attached knowledge. A file appearing in the list does not prove it has finished processing. A successful builder upload saves the document and attaches it to this agent. You do not need Design’s Save Changes or a second attachment from Library. Other agents do not automatically receive it, and this upload does not publish the agent. To reuse the saved document elsewhere, follow Use Library files in an agent.

Try a source question

After Ready, use the chat beside the Build settings. On a narrow screen, select Chat Preview within Build. For the practice file, ask:
What should a customer bring when requesting a return?
Enter the question in the message box, then select Send message or press Enter. Compare the answer with the source: it says unused products and the purchase receipt. For your own document, ask about a fact it actually contains. A completion message may offer Ask in the preview. Selecting it sends the suggested question; it does not upload another file.

If the file type is rejected

Read the message naming the file and allowed types. Export to a supported format and select the new file. Renaming an extension does not convert the contents. One unsupported file can cause the whole selection to be rejected. Check the result rather than assuming the other files uploaded. For a short passage, use Paste text as knowledge instead.

If size or storage blocks the upload

For a size refusal, reduce the file or split it into smaller supported documents. For a storage warning, review the space’s Library usage rather than retrying the same selection. Files in Trash still use storage until erased. Storage limits explains storage and plan choices separately from chat credits.

If uploading or processing fails

  1. Read the message beside the Failed row.
  2. Correct the cause.
  3. Select Retry if that row offers it.
  4. Select the original file if Alysium asks for it again.
  5. Wait for Ready.
Some saved document rows do not offer Retry. Use Get help from a person if there is no recovery action. Include the file type and exact message without sending confidential contents unnecessarily. A document still showing Processing is not ready. Fix a file that failed to process explains the separate failure stages.

If the file is saved but not attached

Select Retry attachment beside that warning. The file is already saved; the unfinished step is connecting it to this agent. Do not upload another copy to resolve the warning. Confirm it appears in the intended agent’s Attached knowledge. Once it is ready and attached, continue with Control how your agent uses its knowledge. For a missing answer, use Why your agent can’t find something.
